For there to be a journalistic brain drain, first there would have to be some brains.

By the mid 70's the Frankfurt School for Social Research had successfully deconstructed the collegiate schools of journalism from traditional 20th century news reporting skills. It then transformed those schools into opinion molding change agents. Thankfully, the reconstructed journalism schools did not teach Marxist discipline and perseverance. So now the change agents resort to wailing and gnashing of teeth. It's a beautiful thing to behold. Lenin is likely fit to be tied in his grave.

"Media narcissism personified." That short sentence says so much.

Totally. A major characteristic of contemporary culture, not just journalism.

"Now we get to see if we really meant it when we said we will hold power to account. Will we do so when our subjects have true power on their side and a willingness to use it?"

I'd like to know what Eisinger means by this -- "true power...and a willingness to use it." As opposed to what other kind of power that all governments wield?

It seems like "hold power to account" resolves to "question only the exercise of power we disagree with, and allow it to pass without analysis or skepticism when we think it's good."

I often wonder if media pundits truly believe what they are espousing regarding racism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc., or are they pushing those descriptions and narratives because they know their readers and viewers want to hear that and will revolt if not catered to? Take the ladies at “The View” for example: Are they really that dense, or are they simply catering to the clapping seals in their audience? Not sure. 🤔 Appreciate your thoughtful analysis!

If you substituted Murdoch Media or, more broadly, right-wing media throughout this piece, your commentary would also ring true.

This is not a surprise.
