Nothing CNN could do- no mea culpa, no amount of groveling, no journalistic standards being adhered to, could make me ever watch, let alone trust them again.

I'm probably an arch conservative. From a Christian point of view more than political.

I was sick for a couple years and moved to a different town and didn't have a TV or radio nor hear any news. I hadn't heard much for 10 years before that just by choice.

I finally got cable at my new place because it was free. There wasn't much to watch late at night when I was up, and I started in a little watching MSNBC and CNN.

It confused me. I knew most of their starting assumptions weren't' true. I wondered if they were satire or comedy and finally figure out, they were not.

I didn't get any FOX right at first to even try. Plus, their angry tone I still don't like.

Anyway. I told my adult son, "I've been watching that Giant Lesbian talk the news and that stuff is wacky."

Nobody had talked to me in a couple months and this adult son had been very busy and had no idea what I had been up too.

"DAD! That's like the worst one! That's not the news! It's a crazy Democrat Giant Lesbian interpreting politics! Gosh!"

So, I basically shut off them and CNN and just stopped news altogether again until I started to read a little online.

We must always be wary of established powers reinventing themselves through the media they own or control

Anderson only understood half the references? He’s one of the most prominent news anchors in the country. Which reference was too obscure for him? Has he been high for the entire year?

Ah! Old Spuds McKenzie can’t even lie convincingly. I have renamed him PO, as in Purposely Obtuse. His body language was so revealing. Loved that!

Does anyone remember when comedians were willing to make fun of the foibles of both parties.

Now Steven Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart and John Oliver are so one sided they sound like scolds. Only Bill Maher, Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle and now this dear lady are willing to take shots at both sides.

They remain funny. The others not.

We will see more and more of this. In some cases there will be a kind of abashed recognition of the changes in narrative. In some cases there will be strident calls to forget the past and focus on THE FUTURE (as they apply the same heuristics and values which led them astray over the past few years). When I comes to research institutions and scientists and medical providers I suspect that we'll see a delicate series of pivots: folks will try to reframe their positions and erase the record of their past statements. This will be difficult in the era of social media, but not impossible. Holding people responsible for what they did and said isn't vindictiveness. It's a necessary corrective for cultural and policy debates.
