Biden Awards Liz Cheney the Presidential Citizens Medal, Proving Honorary Awards Have No Meaning
The Republican turned Democrat party darling reveals that all it takes to be celebrated as a hero, across the aisle, is to bad-mouth Trump.
IN a White House announcement on January 2nd, former Wyoming Republican Rep. and Vice Chair of the January 6th Select Committee Liz Cheney was announced as one of the twenty recipients of the Presidential Citizens Medal. The medal, according to the announcement, represents the second-highest civilian medal and “is awarded to citizens of the United States of America who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.” The commemoration took place later on that day.
What exemplary deeds of service has Cheney—alongside Mississippi Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson, former Chair of the January 6th Select Committee, who was also announced as a recipient of the award—contributed on behalf of her country and fellow citizens? Her service “for putting the American people over party” during her role as vice chair of the January 6th committee, assembled to investigate the 2021 riot on the Capitol. In the announcement, the White House heaps praise at Liz Cheney, saying:
Throughout two decades in public service, including as a Congresswoman for Wyoming and Vice Chair of the Committee on the January 6 attack, Liz Cheney has raised her voice—and reached across the aisle—to defend our Nation and the ideals we stand for: Freedom. Dignity. And decency. Her integrity and intrepidness remind us all what is possible if we work together.
The only way Cheney could be described as serving “the American people” is if that phrase were simply a stand-in for “the Democratic Party.” Indeed, nothing that Cheney has done in recent years have been at the behest of the everyday American citizen—those whom the Presidential Citizens Medal is actually supposed to honor. Her deeds have primarily been in service to the Democrat establishment, including up to the 2024 presidential election during which she was paraded around with Kamala Harris like a chaperone with a grade school student.
For more than a year now, both the events of the January 6th riot and the committee assembled to investigate it have more or less been revealed to be a tactical ruse and a political cudgel with which to pummel any real chance left for Donald Trump to eligibly run for president in these recent past elections. As former Fox News host Tucker Carlson reported in a segment broadcasted in March of 2023, a month before he was abruptly fired from the network, “the point of that committee was to prevent Donald Trump from running for president again, [and] in December of last year, committee members voted unanimously to refer Trump to the Department of Justice for criminal protection.”
As evidence shows, Capitol police willingly held barricades open waiving in rioters onto the grounds, the FBI—notably 26 or more informants—were found to have been somewhat involved with orchestrating, instigating and/or infiltrating the riot, when questioned about the presence of undercover informants on January 6th, director of the FBI Christopher Wray weaseled through his non-answers, Tucker Carlson released the first bombshell hidden surveillance footage from January 6th which the investigating committee had access to, watched, and proceeded to hide from the public, January 6th criminal defendants, and their lawyers, as reported by Carlson. To make matters worse, innocent protesters—citizens simply exercising their right to protest—have been prosecuted in a blatantly political effort to convict as many riot attendees as possible. But according to the Biden administration, Cheney is the person most deserving of the honorary Presidential Citizens Award. Perhaps, this may be one of the most fitting moments to invoke Elon Musk’s infamous decree toward advertisers who vowed to cease advertising on his newly acquired social media platform Twitter/𝕏 — “Go fuck yourself!”
To say this, on its face, is nothing more than a political exchange of favors would be a lie of the highest magnitude. Cheney contributed to the Democrat party’s four-year long sabotage schemes to derail Donald Trump from his mission to return to the Oval Office and fulfill his second term as President of the United States. For her efforts—and her newly minted identity as a Never Trump adherent—she has been rewarded, not for serving the American people, but for temporarily bolstering the Democratic political machine, now stalled by the relentless MAGA wrench thrown into its finely tuned gears.
Indeed, this is no different from the functions of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Though its mission includes fundraising to support the journalists working to cover the president and the scholarships to help the next generation of journalists, its practice reveals the partisanship built into the fabric of the organization. Journalists are often awarded based on reporting that is obsequious to the establishment, not one that is critical of the power centers in politics or representative of the American people. This much is apparent in a cursory look at the winners in recent years of the WHCA award, and especially in moments like this one, in which the Washington Post’s Matt Viser is awarded for “work that went beyond the humdrum of covering the managed events of the presidency and White House. Viser captured the spirit of Joe Biden, particularly with his stories on how the president’s brother and his Catholic faith influenced his strategic vision of the office.”
Former Rising host Krystal Ball captures this phenomenon perfectly when describing what garners endless political accolades. She asserts, “Every sin can be erased if you get the Trump question right. A lifetime of good works can be disappeared if you get the Trump question wrong. It is the only thing that really seems to matter.”
